FLORENCE THROUGH A PAINTERS EYE

There is no greater concentration of Pre-Renaissance, Renaissance and Mannerist paintings in the world.  During our two-day excursion into Florence we will cover both the more visited sights and some of the more obscure paintings and churches.  From Pontormo to Perugino, we will explore the hidden gems of Florence.  Discussions will be through the artist’s eye.   We will explore the various attributes of each medium.  From fresco to egg tempera we will witness the development of each of these great mediums.  And we will watch the development of egg tempera into the use of only oil.   Bring your sketchbook.  Instruction will be given in principles of line and value as it pertains to drawing.   Excursions will be made to one of the great art stores in the world where students can purchase the same pigments used in fresco painting and oil painting since the Renaissance.
We will also visit some of fantastic restaurants and gelateria and do a little "window licking" or shopping.

On the way to Florence we will dive into the heart of Chianti to Panzano. Finding our way to the amazing country restaurant of RIGNANA (meaning The Porcupine) is not easy.  It is not on any map.  After lunch and an espresso we will take a walk in the very striking valley of Poggio al Sole.  Bring your camera because this is a stunningly beautiful valley.

Cost for the two-day extension is $575.  This includes:  hotels and breakfast, two and a half days of visiting the great art of Florence, and transportation to Florence by car.  Not included are lunches, dinners, and museum entrance fees.  Minimum of 3 participants.
